Choosing your first Kayo off-road bike

Choosing your first Kayo starts with rider fit, experience and the place you intend to ride. Compare the controls and dimensions, then ask RBS Pinetown to help you shortlist a suitable model.

Match the bike to the rider

A larger engine is not automatically a better starting point. Check reach to the handlebars and brakes, ability to support the bike, and confidence with its controls. For a young rider, confirm the manufacturer's age guidance for the exact model and arrange suitable instruction and supervision. Age or height alone does not establish suitability.

Compare three pit bikes

Kayo TS70

The TS70 has a 72 cc four-stroke engine, fully automatic transmission and electric starting. Kayo South Africa lists a 615 mm seat height, 10-inch wheels and 52 kg kerb weight. It is the most compact of these three models; confirm the rider's fit and the manufacturer's requirements before choosing it.

Kayo TSD110

The TSD110 has a 106.7 cc engine, four-speed gearbox and kick starting. Its listed seat height is 740 mm and kerb weight is 60 kg. Ask the team to demonstrate the starting and gear-change controls on the exact unit and assess whether the rider is ready to use them.

Kayo TT140

The TT140 has a 140 cc engine, manual four-speed transmission and kick starting. Its 855 mm listed seat height and 17-inch front/14-inch rear wheels give it a noticeably larger layout. It requires a rider who fits the bike and is ready to manage manual controls.

Plan for the whole riding experience

Include a properly fitted helmet, goggles, boots, gloves and protective clothing in your budget. Discuss rider training, permitted riding areas, transport and maintenance before purchasing. Treat these as off-road choices; do not assume that a model can be registered for public-road use.

Common questions

Can I choose a bike from engine size alone?

No. Controls, weight, rider fit, experience and intended terrain all affect the choice. An in-person assessment is more useful than simply moving up to a larger engine.

Should I buy a bigger bike to grow into?

Choose a bike the rider can manage now and that meets the manufacturer's guidance. Reach and control should not depend on a future growth spurt.

What should I send with my enquiry?

Tell us the rider's height, experience, intended riding area and preferred model. For a child, include their age so we can check the relevant model guidance. Ask us to confirm the exact year, equipment, availability and total quoted price.
